Mom’s advice, applies to life and marketing

“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” … I think that she stole this quote from some old book (cue sarcasm). I have always taken this advice seriously and so should every marketer. As a marketer, we have the responsibility to sell, but also to educate our customers. I do not want to be sold every time I open my emails, Facebook account, or read a blog, and I assume most people feel the same.

Through social media marketing, you should create conversations, build relationships and educate your readers. Discounts and promotions only go so far; a lifetime customer is created through customer service and brand loyalty.  Consumers see over 3000 ads a day, between TV, smart phones, internet and print ads… an ad only really connects with the consumer if it appeals to them on an emotionally and logically.

Social media was the best thing that happened to businesses since email and everyone can benefit from it if they do not take advantage of it. Social media allows businesses to monitor and measure marketing efforts, create relationships, build brand image and reach a targeted market. It’s not just another excuse to bombard consumers with ads.
